Wing Chun originated in China and has evolved, adapted and changed as it has been passed down from teacher to student over the years. However, the core principles - the concepts - of directness, practicality and efficiency remain the same.

Coach Rai bases his approach on his own experiences of being taught by some of the best Wing Chun coaches in the world. His training in Wing Chun has spanned 5 decades and he has taught in Ireland, South Korea, China and Manchester.

As a result of training, research and testing, we have refined and streamlined traditional versions of this famous martial art into a real world combat system for the 21st Century and the next level of evolution of Wing Chun.

Our Wing Chun comes from several sources, including: Wong Shun Leung’s “science of close range combat,” Joseph Cheung, the first person to teach Wing Chun openly in Europe, and the Ip family.

Our training consists of:

  • Forms: reference guides, internal alchemy and structures of the system. The three hand forms, the wooden dummy form and weapons forms provide movement templates and develop different powers, co-ordination and excellent health.

  • Chi sao: 2 person drills that develop the ability to apply the concepts through listening skill, the ability to absorb and borrow force, co-ordination and timing.

  • Conditioning: strengthening and toughening the anatomical tools to weaponise the body.

We are an independent club, and regularly host guest instructors for seminars on different aspects of Wing Chun and related martial arts.
